The best i've ever heard is still from Dick's Picks Vol. 11 Stanely Theater NJ, 9-27-72. Absoulte perfection. Phil can be heard just after it ends exclaiming "Dyn-a-mite!"

Close second would be the legendary performance w/Branford Marsalis at Nassaul Coliseum in 1990, which can be found on "Without a Net". (The Eyes of the World on that same CD, also w/Branford, is a gem).

Actually, the Bird Song w/Branford can be found on the So Many Roads box set. For a version that isn't quite as high-profile, yet is very enjoyable, try Giants Staduium 7/9/89. There was also a kickin' super funky Shakedown and a Jack Straw for the ages to open that show. Great summer music to take away the winter chill.

Maybe when GDlive gets back up I'll be able to check a few of these out.
